Loved the site and to comment on Tradewinds II it was owned from start to finish by the same guy. I can't remember his name. The younger one was there the night of closing and said good bye. Probably 15 to 20 years ago they moved to Ft Lauderdale and had others manage the bar for them. It was good for a while then it feel short as younger managers started running the bar. Us old timers that went there from the beginning weren't going out like we used to. We were more content staying home and drinking and when we did go out we never seemed to make it to closing like we used to when we were younger. To keep up TW's tried to go to the new wave stuff and thats what turned people off. Me included. When I would go there I wanted to relieve my youth and listen and yes sometimes still dance to the music of way back then. My partner and I are having our aniversity today and I'm trying to figure out where to go. Columbus doesn't have much anymore.

I moved to Columbus back in 1980 from Chicago and the Grotto was THE place to go in town. It had two (or posssibly three?) floors. The dance bar was downstairs and the cruisy levi-leather bar was upstairs. Dancing to the disco version of Evita and working up a sweat and then going upstairs to get in trouble. The top floor was where you went if you meant business and it never failed in those halcyon days before AIDS. I met friends there from New York who used to vacation in Columbus just because of the wonderful crowd there. Their Sunday afternoon free barbeques were legendary. It was located in an old brick building next to the old Claremont Inn (apparently now the Comfort Inn) on High Street and had an old stamped tin ceiling. I left Columbus a year later, but to this day I still think of it as the friendliest most fun bar (with something for everyone) that I have ever been to--including Chicago, New York, LA and San Francisco. I am an old man now but will always have a special fondness for Columbus.

Tiny's had two female waitresses called Pinky and Shep. There were drag queens doing Karoke on stage. It was very entertaining. Ty's was downtown, too..somewhere around 3rd and Town St. It was one of the first discos in Columbus when the disco craze hit in the 1970's. The dance floor was alway full, with frenetic dancing when all the other bars or clubs were still "mellow" and boring. It was a fun place!

I have always felt Las Vegas is the most un-gay place as no one is from Vegas and the gay population is always coming and going. I can not see Vegas as a place that has much of a community of gays that have lived there for years but I could be wrong..is it that way?
Pool parties are really not my thing as it gets to damn hot in Vegas in the summer and I get a sunburn in the shade. I like the smaller bars with real people in them and big clubs usually mean you spend a lot more money for booze/admission...also at big clubs you get a lot more attitude from the crowd there.
In fact this trip made me decide I really never want to go anywhere if it is hot unless there is a nice beach and a nice ocean with some good waves...no Gulf Coast for me. I like Vegas in January when it is cheap to stay and the weather is perfect for me.
Now I still love the hell out of Vegas but it is in bad shape. Hell the whole world is in bad shape. China has some huge casinos and hotels that are like some weird kind of ghost town.
Thanks for listening to my show and leaving a comment and with all the bad things about Vegas I will be back as it is a one of a kind place.

I Just listened to your latest podcast that was broadcast and produced here in my home town of Las Vegas during the Pride48 2012 meetup . Great show. I am sorry that you did not enjoy yourself here in Vegas as much as you should have. Hopefully the next time you visit, things will be better for you. The largest Gay club in the world is about to break ground in the next thirty days right here in sunny Las Vegas.

Las Vegas is one of the top destinations in the country for gay and lesbian travelers, and in the warmer months, the parties move outside to the pool. Sexy boys and girls are flocking to the LGBT pool parties offered at both The Mirage and Luxor. As a matter of fact, many Las Vegas hotels - Paris Las Vegas was among the first - go out of their way to cater to LGBT clientele, with packages and special offers that can even include commitment ceremonies. At Wynn and Encore, there's a Pride concierge, dedicated specifically to helping LGBT guests make the most of their time in Vegas. Not that you'll need much help when there's something fabulous around every corner.

Of course, you can't do Vegas without hitting the bars and clubs just south of the Hard Rock Hotel on Paradise Road that is home to the FreeZone, the Buffalo, Gipsy, Piranha Nightclub and 8 ½ Ultra Lounge. Another can't-miss gay nightclub is Krave, located in the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. Also, don't miss Charlie's Las Vegas, which was recently voted "Best gay bar to meet new friends" by Naked Boy News.

Of course, there's more to life than partying. You've got an eye for the finer things in life and Las Vegas is certainly up to the challenge. The public art on display at CityCenter includes masterworks from Maya Lin, Nancy Rubins and Claes Oldenburg. Right next door at The Cosmopolitan, street artists such as Shepard Fairey were commissioned to paint different floors of the underground parking garage.

One thing that's not underground is the amazing dining and shopping found up and down the Strip that round out any perfect getaway. Come wear your colors proudly in Vegas.

I a looking forward to you future show.

I also remember walking into my very first gay bar in Columbus by "accident". I was walking along the southern part of downtown Columbus when I saw a trio of obviously gay guys walk into a small bar called "Tiny's". It was a bar on one side, booths on the other, and a stage at the far end, where they did "shows". Soon thereafter, I discovered "The Kismet", "Tradewinds II", and "The Grotto". Yeah, yeah, I know, I am so dating myself. Ahhh, but fond memories!

Axis is lots of younger kids but has a dance floor but only open Fri and Sat like 10 to 2am.
Wall street has a dance floor but is a lesbian bar except on Wednesday you can find guys but again younger crowd.
Hopefully AWOL will gets it permits and crap from the city and will have a dancefloor before the year ends and that would be your best shot I think.
Columbus bars suck ass now without one bar with a dancefloor that is open everyday.
